Talking About AAC And Us, On The ‘Let’s Talk Autism’ Podcast!

Earlier this week I had a chat with Meesh and Christelle of the ‘Let’s Talk Autism’ podcast! This week they’ve been doing a super impressive ‘podcast marathon’ of 7 episodes per day for each day of the week, to highlight Autism Awareness Week. So a total of 49 short episodes (each about 6-9 mins long) on a wide range of subjects, all relating to autism!

Meesh and Christelle both have autistic children themselves, and started their podcast as a kind of forum, or platform if you wish, for discussing, learning, and sharing experiences from other autism families and autistic individuals. At the time of me writing this, they’ve just reached over 10K downloads, which is brilliant! I think the podcast is a great format, easily accessable, and something you can listen to whenever you have a spare moment. And the tone of discussion in the ‘Let’s Talk Autism’ podcast is very friendly and positive, with a sense of humour, while at the same time not shying away from making serious points and discussing important subjects.

My appearance on the show this week was my second time as guest on this podcast. The first one was in November, and back then we had a fairly in-depth discussion about AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), as well as about Penguin and him being nonverbal, and a little bit more generally about our ‘journey’ so far. This week’s shorter episode was a little catch-up chat, and we talked about AAC again plus a bit about learning apps in general, and about Penguin being the delightful young man that he is!

Please lend me your ears for just about 9 mins to hear the episode from this week, here: AAC – Augmentative Alternative Learning (letstalkautism.co.uk) and if you’re interested in the more thorough discussion from my first time on the show, it’s found here: Non Verbal Communication – AAC (letstalkautism.co.uk)

To find out more about different kinds of AAC, and to learn about some great online resources for learning to use AAC, take a look at this blog post I wrote in October: AAC: Basic Facts And Helpful Resources

I would also encourage you to have a browse through the list of ALL of the podcast episodes to date, and listen to them too, here: Let’s Talk Autism. The podcast can be found on Spotify as well, if that’s what you prefer.

Thank you so much for reading – and for listening! x
